Hexon Terrain Boards Review

I recently decided to try out Kallistra’s Hexon terrain boards, having read good things about them on quite a few blogs. They are available in a variety of colours or Kallistra can supply them pre-flocked. I decided to go for the flocked version, as recommended in this blog post.

They arrived only a few days after I ordered them, packaged well and undamaged. I’m looking to start off with a 2ft square playing area and ordered 4 boards which turned out to be a bit of a miscalculation. This gives me a playing area of roughly 1 1/2 ft by 1 3/4 feet so an extra five boards will be required giving me roughly 2 1/2 ft by 2 ft.

The boards themselves are cast in hard plastic that feels very sturdy and look very difficult to damage unless you go out of your way to do it. The pre-flocked ones come in brown plastic but you can also order them plain in brown, black or blue.

The flocking appears to be of a high quality, coverage was total and so far has stayed where it is meant to be, on the boards. From what I have read the pre-flocked boards don’t shed any flock even after continued use and I haven’t seen anything to suggest otherwise.

Although I only have 4 boards it is pretty obvious that storage isn’t going to be a major problem, the boards fit neatly on top of each other.

I’m very pleased with my purchase and I’ll definitely be ordering more to make a 2×2 playing area then enough to make 3×3 and 4×4. They are available in boxes of 21 that will cover an area of 3×4 but I’m afraid my gaming budget wont stretch to that. Highly recommended.
