Its been a while since I updated this blog, as usual real life gets in the way.
Over the past year or two I’ve been more than guilty of shiny shiny syndrome, jumping from one thing to the next and finishing nothing. So, because of that I’d decided to not buy any new miniatures until the lead pile had been reduced. But even then I can’t focus on one thing at a time.
What I need is a project. I had 3 options open to me , all 15mm, based on what I’d been buying over the past few years. Sci-fi, modern or fantasy. I was having a tough time choosing when fate intervened.
I was looking around some old files on my computer when I came across the original version of Ambush Alley, before the Osprey versions were published. Ambush Alley started out as a regular vs insurgents game designed to be played on a small tabletop. This led to Force On Force which was a stand alone rule set that dealt with regular vs regular warfare. A few years after this they were combined and published by Osprey. The rest is history.
While having a read through them I realised that I HAD NEVER PLAYED THEM! Not once. After buying them my interest switched mainly to sci-fi and they were forgotten about.
Then an idea formed in my head. Here was the project I was looking for staring me right in the face.
Why don’t I build enough forces to play through all the scenarios with these rules? I’ll need buildings too, the scenarios have top down views of a fully laid out board. I’ll scratch build my own versions. My terrain mats are green but I’ll need a desert one, this I might just buy. A new shiny shiny fluttering about in my head to eventually fade away when something new comes along.
Not this time. What I’m going to do is plan this from start to finish and document it all on this blog. I’m not going to buy anything gaming related that isn’t for this project until this project is done. I’m going to list everything I need to do and buy and I’m going to focus on that. I can do it at work, why can’t I do it with my toy soldiers.
All I need now is a catchy name and I’m ready but thats easy. A Stroll Down Ambush Alley.
